Vintage Perfume Studies

I've long been interested in vintage perfume from the late 19th and early 20th century. The accessibility to a seemingly unrestricted palette of botanicals, animalics, and the discovery of aroma chemicals provided fertile ground for perfumers of the time. It cannot be ignored that resulted in exploitation and the "discovery" of materials used for millennia by other cultures. 

The study of vintage perfumes allows an opportunity to explore materials and creative processes that provided the foundation for modern perfumery. It is also an excellent way to discuss the cultures who used these materials for millennia before they were "discovered" by the West.

The general format of the perfume studies is as follows:

• Vintage reproduction (Courtesy of Fraterworks and their GCMS based formulas)
  • Non-IFRA compliant materials are used intentionally in order to be as historically accurate as possible.
• Sample of pre-IFRA perfume being studied.
  
• Additional study materials that represent the class focus. See below for examples:
  • Emir - Aldehydes
  • Tabu - Oakmoss and Costus and their replacers
  • Canoe - Nitro Musks and their replacers
